Things to do in Kivik on a cycling vacation

Kivik is a small town and yet buzzing with life. In summer it's a popular holiday destination with very good places for swimming and sunbathing, and of course the famous apple cider.

Walk in the old quarters near the harbour, where the author Fritiof Nilsson stayed, visit the cider brewery, walk in the apple orchards and eat good food when you feel like taking a break from cycling. When it's time to start cycling you will soon reach places that are worth exploring. Near Kivik you will find, among other things:

• Stenshuvud National Park is Österlen's most famous national park and consists of beaches, deciduous forests and pastures - a fantastic mix of everything that characterizes the Scanian nature. Cycle south from Kivik to the national park, which offers magnificent views of Hanö Bay. Here you can also have coffee, and swim and sunbathe on the sandy beach.

• Haväng, cycle north from Kivik either on the tranquil beach path or on the faster cycle path next to the road. On the gravel roads you are surrounded by beautiful heathland next to the sea. You will also see beech forests and one of Sweden's longest sandy beaches that continue all the way to Åhus.

Rent a bike to Sydostleden in Kivik

Sydostleden is a cycling route that goes all the way from Simrishamn in the south to Växjö in the north. On the way it passes through Kivik. The cycle path is mostly free from cars and marked with signs all the way. From Kivik you can cycle towards Brösarp or towards Simrishamn on Sydostleden.

• The cycle path south towards Simrishamn offers sea views along large parts of the route. North of Baskemölla you will find Tjörnedala walking area if you want a break from the bicycle saddle. Simrishamn offers shopping, restaurants with local ingredients and cafes, and a beach.

• If you rent a bike to Sydostleden and cycle towards Brösarp, you pass Vitaby church with a great view of the Baltic Sea. There is also a blueberry self-picking and a farm shop. Further towards Brösarp is the baroque castle Christinehof and Skåne's oldest coffee house. Near the cycle path is Hallamölla waterfall, the highest waterfall in Skåne.
